OUR MISSION:

Secure and Distribute Nutritious Food To Individuals and Households In Need.

The Red Wing Area Food Shelf began in 1983 as the Goodhue County Christmas Project. We are governed by an active board of 12 people, one part-time staff, and have over 170 volunteers who rescue, secure, and distribute nutritious food to our low income neighbors in need. We are grateful for the support and donations we receive from individuals, businesses, churches, civic organizations, and food drives.

We moved to 1755 Old West Main Street in 2011 after spending 28 years located in the basement of First Lutheran Church. Our main entrance is barrier-free, a bus stop is located in front of our building, and in Summer 2015 we updated our reception area and intake process with community involvement.

In 2022, we served 3,489 households and distributed 227,810 pounds of food. In 2025, we served 10,003 households and distributed 448,690 pounds of food.

For each $1 donated, we can purchase about $3 worth of food from Channel One Food Bank in Rochester, MN. Other sources of food come from U.S. Government USDA approved products, rescued and purchased food from area retailers, and from gardeners who plant a grow to share.
